Week one on Realise!

Arriving at Realise was both exciting and nerve racking. We were toured around the camp site and then found out our Wardli groups. I was placed with Claudia, Isobel, Ellen, Laura and Olivia. The week was filled with our first shopping trip. We found it hard finding the cheapest food and portioning our chocolate. We went to an op shop and purchased and old fashioned piece of clothing. I purchased a hat. We visited a mining ground in Moonta and a museum. Weeding and camping was an interesting experience really testing our ability to persevere. We saw lots of wildlife including baby emus. Week one was a brilliant introduction to the events laid out before us for the time we would be spending at Realise.

Week two

Snorkelling was brilliant. Dressing up in tightly fitted snorkeling gear got us in the mood for the sea and all the things it holds. We jumped in the water although freezing cold and saw many amazing things such as a bright orange starfish. Week two was a very active week consisting of morning runs and daily trips to the sea. The main highlight was visiting the Aboriginal Primary School. Many girls made very close friendships with the children who attended the school girl. It was very interesting to see the background that these children were brought up in compared to ours.

Last Week

The last week of realise has flown by. On Tuesday we began our surfing lessons. Girls jumped into their provided wet suits and piled onto the bus. We headed down to Berry Bay More and were greeted by a clan of up to 20 dolphins who were jumping through the perfect waves that we were about to surf. After being instructed through the techniques of surfing we jumped into the sea and onto our boards. Many girls got wiped out due to the massive waves that were crashing onto the shore. On the other hand many stood up and found success. I stood up once and it was the best feeling ever. On Wednesday we headed down to the beach again to surf. I stood up for a much longer time then I did on Tuesday. I was very happy. I also happened to get thrown of my board and tossed through a massive wave. Today we didn't have much success because the winds were so strong. Instead we were offered a bag of hot chips which most girls were absolutely fine with. Realise is coming to an end now. Tomorrow we will be heading home and leaving Realise. The three weeks I have spent on this camp I have learnt so much. I have become closer with more of my peers and I have a much better respect and understanding for the world we live in.
